Before tax. Monthly pay is the yearly amount divided by 12. The national minimum wage is $26.44 an hour ($1,004.90 for a 38-hour week) from 1 July 2026 for adult employees not covered by an award or enterprise agreement.
How the conversion works
- Yearly to weekly: divide by 52 (or the number of paid weeks you enter).
- Weekly to hourly: divide by your ordinary hours per week. Under the National Employment Standards, 38 hours is the maximum ordinary week for a full-time employee, plus any reasonable additional hours.
- Fortnightly: two weeks’ pay. Monthly: the yearly amount divided by 12, which is about 4.33 weeks.
- Hourly to yearly: hourly rate × hours per week × 52.
Paid annual leave and public holidays are already part of a salary, so keep paid weeks at 52 for permanent employees. Use a smaller number only if you are paid for fewer weeks, for example on an unpaid break.
National minimum wage from 1 July 2026
In the Annual Wage Review 2026, announced on 2 June 2026, the Fair Work Commission increased modern award minimum wages by 4.75% and lifted the lowest rates further to start phasing out the C13 classification. The national minimum wage, which is aligned with the C13 rate, rose from $948.00 to $1,004.90 a week, or $26.44 an hour, from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026.
| National minimum wage | Before 1 July 2026 | From 1 July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Per hour | $24.95 | $26.44 |
| Per 38-hour week | $948.00 | $1,004.90 |
| Per year (52 weeks) | $49,296.00 | $52,254.80 |
| Casual hourly rate (with 25% loading) | $31.19 | $33.05 |
The national minimum wage applies only to employees who are not covered by a modern award or enterprise agreement, and the Fair Work Commission notes that very few people are actually paid at that rate. Award and agreement rates depend on your job and classification and are often higher. Junior employees, apprentices, trainees and employees on the supported wage system have special minimum rates. Use the Fair Work Ombudsman’s pay guides to check the rate for your job.

Comparing jobs: casual, part-time and salary
- Casual rates include a loading, usually 25%, instead of paid leave. To compare a casual rate with a permanent one, divide it by 1.25: $40 an hour casual is like $32 an hour permanent.
- Part-time: enter your actual weekly hours, for example 20, to see your pay per week and per year.
- Super: your employer must pay 12% of your ordinary time earnings into super on top of your pay. If a job is advertised as a package “including super”, divide it by 1.12 first.
- Overtime: salaried staff working long hours earn less per hour than this calculator shows. Enter your real hours to see your true hourly rate.

How many working hours are in a year in Australia?
